Cast Iron Cooking: From stovetop to oven to tabletop!
A cast iron skillet is useful for many reasons, and one of the best is that it is so versatile: it can go from stovetop to oven to table!
Cast iron skillets are designed to be used in an oven and can withstand very high temperatures—remember that people used cast iron cooking implements before modern stoves or ovens were invented, so they were used on or in an open flame!
One of the ways you can tell that a cast iron skillet is appropriate for oven use is that the handle is cast iron and not rubber or plastic, which would melt in the oven.
An additional benefit to using cast iron is that studies have shown that some of the iron can be absorbed into the food, helping people to meet their daily iron requirements. Always remember, though, to check the manufacturer’s instructions before using any piece of kitchen equipment—better safe than sorry!
